The Lightning Bolt and Hurricane Sandy: shortlisted pictures from Sony World Photography Awards

Images as diverse as the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and Usain Bolt at the London Olympics have made it through to the shortlist of the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards. The awards - with 10 categories ranging from arts to travel - are open to photographers of all ages, backgrounds and experience. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in April.
