Talking Point: Should money spent on space tourism be used to help the earth?

As more and more millions are poured into the new space race (Evening Standard comment writer Susannah Butter calls it an “unedifying ego competition” between “space bro billionaires” Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and Jeff Bezos,) many are concerned that the growing climate crisis is not getting due attention.

Speaking on the matter, Prince William said: “We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live.”

Londoner1885 suggested: “In order to tackle violence in football, I think that clubs should be encouraged to invest on initiatives aimed at supporting local communities.

“In fact, similar actions could be of fundamental importance both for older and for younger people, particularly in the more deprived areas of the cities. The authorities could back these projects even under a financial point of view.”
