Tom Blomfield

Tom Blomfield set up his first business - a school disco - before he was even a teenager. His first tech venture - designing the website of a local estate agent in Buckinghamshire - followed soon after. While in university, he built his first million-pound company: an “eBay for students” named Boso.

But it was Monzo – founded in 2015 after he left fellow challenger bank Starling - that made Blomfield one of the UK’s richest fintech entrepreneurs. He set up a crowdfunding campaign for the new venture, which achieved its £1 million target in 96 seconds.

In 2018, the bank gained its millionth user, and the next year it was valued at £2 billion.

In May 2020, Blomfield announced that he was stepping down as Monzo’s CEO, and he left the business entirely at the start of 2021. Now, he’s helped to fund startups as an angel investor, backing startups like payroll software fintech Pento healthcare workforce platform Patchwork Health.
