Nestlé invests in medical nutrition

Nestlé today said it will plough hundreds of millions of euros into a new medical nutrition business which it called somewhere "between foods and pharma".

The maker of Nesquik and Nescafé said existing healthcare systems cannot cope with the growing number of people suffering from diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's.

The company said Nestlé Health Science, to be operational from January 1, will conduct research into foods that can improve health and longevity. Nestlé will invest about 500 million Swiss francs over the next decade.
