Two property investors have driven into the London housing market by snapping up the former Ford stamping works site in Dagenham.

The sale to Europa Capital, on behalf of one its funds, and St Congar Land comes three years after the plant closed.

It had stood in east London for almost 90 years, but was closed as part of a move to cope with a drop in new vehicle demand.

The Ford Dagenham site is one of the best-known plants in the country, and inspired the hit musical Made in Dagenham.

A price of around £26 million for the 42-acre brownfield site was agreed with Ford Motor Company, according to the Land Registry. Property agent Cushman & Wakefield advised.

There are plans for 2,650 homes on the land.

Hugo Black, director of Europa Capital Partners, said: “With a railway station adjacent to the site providing a journey time to the City of less than 20 minutes, the site represents an exciting opportunity in one of the best value-for-money areas of London.”
