DHL contract for BHS to terminate in just under a fortnight

Logistics giant DHL’s contract for BHS will terminate in just under a fortnight, putting hundreds of jobs at risk, it emerged on Wednesday as the knock-on effect from the collapse of the retailer became clearer.

Since May around 60 drivers and 300 workers at DHL Supply Chain have been waiting to see if a buyer for the 163-shops chain could be found.

But BHS’ administrator Duff & Phelps has now confirmed all stores will close by August 20.

A spokesman for DHL told the Evening Standard it has been informed its work with the firm will end on August 6.

He added that a number of options for redeployment have been presented to staff.

Brixton-founded BHS collapsed in April this year with a £571 million pension deficit.

It failed 13 months after it was sold for £1 by Sir Philip Green to little-known Retail Acquisitions.
