Electra puts tabs on £256m as it sells off stake in Allflex

3 May 2013

Electra Private Equity, which counts Ofcom chairman Colette Bowe and former Bank of England rate-setter Kate Barker as directors, today landed a windfall of $398 million (£256 million) after selling its stake in animal-identification company Allflex.

Electra said the sale represented a 15-fold return on its investment in Allflex, made 14 years ago.

BC Partners is buying the company, which makes and distributes plastic and electronic animal identification tags, for an enterprise value of $1.3 billion. Electra Partners, an investment management company that looks after clients including Electra Private Equity’s stake, will collect $630.5 million. Allflex’s management team also owns a stake.

City analysts welcomed the deal, with broker Liberum Capital describing it as “a fantastic result for Electra”.

Electra has already received a boost after trebling its money on the flotation of insurer esure, in which it had a stake, earlier this year.
