BG battles to claw back Kazakh duty

BG, the UK-based international oil and gas explorer, is trying to recover more than £616 million in oil export duty paid to Kazakhstan through an international arbitration court, the country's energy minister Sauat Mynbayev said today.

BG worked on the Karachaganak land alongside rivals Eni, Chevron and Lukoil. Most foreign firms' energy exploration was exempted from the duty, but the Karachaganak project was not.
